The Company provides investors a vehicle to invest in a portfolio consisting primarily of the stocks of companies engaged in the exploration, mining or processing of gold, silver, platinum, diamonds or other precious minerals. It may also invest in gold, silver and platinum bullion or securities that seek to replicate the price movement of gold, silver or platinum bullion.
The common shares of the Company are listed on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: "ASA"). The Company is managed internally by its directors and officers, the majority of whom are United States citizens and residents.
The Company is a "passive foreign investment company" ("PFIC") for United States federal income tax purposes. In view of this, United States investors holding shares in taxable accounts are strongly urged to review the important tax information regarding the consequences of an investment in the common shares of the Company, which may be found elsewhere on this web site under Investor Information.
